VIPD Arrests Suspect in March Shooting at Lorraine Village Apartments

Oct.28, 2026

ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands — A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a March 2026 shooting incident at the Lorraine Village Housing Apartments on St. Croix, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD).

Police said the incident occurred on March 14, 2026, at approximately 5:05 a.m., when the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of gunfire in the Lorraine Village area.

Authorities also received a report from a victim who went to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station and alleged that Akeem Matthew had fired shots at him.

Investigators determined that Matthew allegedly fired multiple rounds at the victim as the victim drove away from the area.

During the attempt to escape the gunfire, the victim reportedly struck another individual with his vehicle.

On July 10, 2026, a Superior Court judge signed an arrest warrant for Matthew and set bail at $100,000.

Matthew Surrenders to Police

On October 27, 2026, Matthew turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. Police said he was advised of his Miranda rights, arrested, and booked on the outstanding warrant.

Matthew faces charges of carrying a firearm openly or concealed, first-degree assault, carrying or using a dangerous weapon, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession or sale of ammunition, and discharging or aiming a firearm.

Unable to post the court-ordered $100,000 bail, Matthew was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
