DEA Launches “Los Tíos” Drug Trafficking Operation in Puerto Rico, 17 Arrest Warrants Executed

Federal agents target alleged criminal organization in Quebradillas and Aguadilla amid investigation into drugs and firearms

Oct. 28,2026

PUERTO RICO — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launched an early Wednesday morning operation, dubbed “Los Tíos,” targeting an alleged drug trafficking organization operating in northwestern Puerto Rico.

According to DEA spokesperson Tony Velázquez, authorities are executing 17 arrest warrants in the municipalities of Quebradillas and Aguadilla, including at the Las Muñecas public housing complex.

Federal authorities allege that the organization is highly structured and violent, with suspected international connections to Colombia and the Dominican Republic. Investigators believe the group was involved in distributing several illegal drugs, including fentanyl, crack cocaine, cocaine and heroin.

The investigation began in 2022 and reportedly includes allegations of firearms-related activities in connection with the suspected criminal organization.

Multiple Agencies Participate in Operation

The operation is being carried out through the Homeland Security Task Force, with support from the Puerto Rico Police, the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Special Investigations Bureau (NIE) and other federal agencies.

The coordinated effort highlights the involvement of multiple law enforcement agencies in investigating alleged drug trafficking networks and their suspected connections to international sources.

More Information Expected

Authorities are continuing to execute arrest warrants throughout the day, with additional details expected as the operation progresses.

Officials have not yet provided complete information regarding the identities of those targeted, the number of arrests completed or the full scope of any evidence seized.

The investigation remains ongoing. The allegations against any individuals named in connection with the operation should be treated as allegations unless and until established in court.
