Oct.29, 2026
ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Four students from St. Croix Central High School represented the territory at the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 21–24, gaining valuable experience in agricultural leadership, technology and career development.
The delegation included Wilbel Cedano, Jorge Pantoja, Zahryah Williams and Dianelis Zarate, accompanied by agricultural teacher Sheila Martin and Department of Education officials.
A proud moment came when Zahryah Williams served as the U.S. Virgin Islands flag bearer, representing the territory alongside delegates from across the nation.
Students participated in networking events, toured Corteva Agriscience, explored agricultural technology and drone demonstrations, and learned about college programs, internships and career opportunities.
They also attended leadership sessions featuring motivational speakers.
Agricultural teacher Sheila Martin described the trip as an invaluable experience that exposed students to new opportunities and helped shape their future careers.
Looking ahead, the Department of Education hopes to expand the territory’s delegation for the 100th National FFA Convention, encouraging greater student participation in agricultural education and leadership.
The department also emphasized that FFA membership and chapter participation in the U.S. Virgin Islands are accessible without membership dues, creating opportunities for more schools and students to get involved.
The experience highlights the importance of investing in young Virgin Islanders and preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders.
